We heard him at night, we also saw him, high in the trees but again, always at night...till the other day.
There he was, perched on top of the flag pole behind our house. The great grey owl. he is quite well camouflaged and is a bit hard to see from a distance.
He's been around for about 2 months now. Being the largest North American owl, he's huge. According to the Audubon handbook that we have, he could measure as much as 27''. He has a large face with concentric grey and bown circles, white crescents on the throat and yellow eyes.
Quite the sight!

ReplyDeleteHi, I found your blog from The Empty Nest and a comment you left there. What a pleasant surprise to find another Ontario blog.
ReplyDeleteHow very interesting to see the owl, and he is indeed well camouflaged. We have camped at Arrowhead Provincial park many times and the kids (and grownups too) love the owl presentation. So much cool information.
I hope you get a chance to stop by and visit my blog.
